Middleway, a historic town established in the 1700s, has been placed on the Preservation Alliance of West Virginia's Endangered Properties List. This decision highlights concerns about the potential impact of a proposed water bottling facility by Sidewinder Enterprises on the town's historic district, which features structures dating back to the 18th century. Preservationists argue that the bottling facility, located on the site of the former 3M plant, could jeopardize the stability of significant local historic sites. As trucks would need to transport water through the town’s roads, community leaders like Middleway Conservancy President Jessie Norris are striving to raise awareness and protect the area's heritage, a vital aspect of its identity.
