The Jefferson County Historic Landmarks Commission has voted unanimously against a proposed water bottling facility on the site of the old 3M factory in Middleway, citing zoning code restrictions for historic properties. Acting chair Addison Reese noted that this is likely the first time the commission has recommended such action for a development of this scale, which could span up to one million square feet and provide around 160 jobs. This decision reflects significant local concerns regarding the impact of large developments on the region's heritage and landscape, as reported by the West Virginia Press Association.
