New Courthouse in Charles Town Approved by County Commission
County Commission To Buy Second APUS Building For New Courthouse
The Independent Observer | Friday, March 21, 2025
The Independent Observer reports that the County Commission has authorized the purchase of 330 North George Street in Charles Town, which will serve as the new courthouse, consolidating the functions of Circuit, Magistrate, and Family Courts currently spread across several downtown buildings. This move is expected to enhance public access and security, and it follows an assessment of maintaining existing court facilities. The building was acquired for $6.952 million, positioned near the future county operations center. Local development plans are underway for adjacent parcels to create a park, while the Commission has not yet disclosed plans for the current courthouse buildings.
