The Spirit of Jefferson reports that local officials are establishing a new day report center aimed at providing an alternative to incarceration for individuals arrested for non-violent offenses related to drug addiction. Planned to open by the end of 2026, the center presents a funding challenge, as its estimated annual cost is around $400,000, significantly higher than the previous non-profit's operating budget. County Administrator Edwina Benites and BDRC director Tim Czaja highlighted these concerns during a commission meeting, as the program could offer essential treatment to residents in towns like Charles Town and Ranson who are currently served by the Berkeley Day Report Center.
