The West Virginia Senate is set to review a proposed bill aimed at providing pay increases for educators living in high-cost areas like Charles Town and Ranson. This initiative seeks to prevent teacher migration to neighboring states with better compensation. Senate Education Chairwoman Amy Nichole Grady emphasized that this strategy is not solely about pay raises but about retaining certified teachers within the state. The proposal includes a formula based on regional housing costs that could affect which counties qualify for raises, impacting potentially 25 districts across West Virginia, including some areas along the Maryland border.
