Potomac Edison Proposes New Transmission Lines Near Charles Town
Potomac Edison seeking approval for transmission line project going through Jefferson County
WV Metro News | Monday, September 1, 2025
Potomac Edison plans to file for approval of the Gore Doubs-Goose Creek Improvement Project, impacting 15 miles through the region, including routes affecting towns like Charles Town. This initiative aims to enhance transmission reliability due to reliability concerns identified by PJM Interconnection, addressing issues from power plant retirements and increasing electricity demand. By utilizing taller, narrower transmission structures, the project aims to stay within existing rights-of-way and avoid the need for additional property, ultimately boosting service reliability for local residents and businesses. Construction could begin in 2027 if the application is approved by the Public Service Commission, as reported by WV Metro News.
