Potomac Farms Nursery & Greenhouses, a beloved fixture in Shepherdstown for 41 years, closed its doors on June 27, following its acquisition by Oldcastle APG. Founded in 1984, Potomac Farms was initially supported by the Lowe Products Company, but after a year under new ownership, the decision was made to permanently close the nursery despite community ties and longtime customer loyalty. The site will now focus on soil testing and mulch production, a shift that has deeply saddened long-time patrons and employees like sales coordinator Hannah Riner. This change marks the end of an era for the local gardening community, which relied heavily on the nursery for decades, as reflected in coverage by The Shepherdstown Chronicle.
