Shepherdstown's Potomac Farms Nursery Closes After 41 Years

Potomac Farms Nursery closes its doors after 41 years in business

Potomac Farms Nursery & Greenhouses, a cornerstone of the Shepherdstown gardening community for 41 years, has closed as of June 27. Originally founded in 1984, the nursery was sold to Oldcastle APG in 2022, aiming to expand mulch and soil production. Despite hopes to keep the nursery open, it ceased operations after a year. Local employees, including manager Jason, are shifting to assist with future projects at the site, which will see repurpose of facilities rather than demolition. Many longtime customers, including those from nearby towns, mourn the loss of a beloved community hub, according to sales coordinator Hannah Riner, reflecting on the deep connection residents have had with the nursery over the decades.
