The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection, alongside local organizations like the West Virginia Rivers Coalition and Fair Shake Environmental Legal Services, is set to host a public meeting on October 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Country Inn in Berkeley Springs. The meeting is part of ongoing efforts under the PFAS Protection Act to address the presence of 'forever chemicals' in public water systems across the Eastern Panhandle, including towns such as Charles Town and Harpers Ferry. With confirmed traces of PFAS in several nearby water systems, the meeting aims to gather community input, provide information, and develop action plans to ensure water quality continues to meet safety standards. Berkeley Springs officials report nearly non-detectable levels of PFAS, making the town's water quality notably high and recognized even internationally.
