In a recent special city council meeting in Ranson, plans to introduce defined pension benefits for police officers were voted down, with a decisive 3-2 outcome. This meeting, held on May 27, saw increased council support compared to the previous session but ultimately led to the decision to not pursue a state retirement program. Mayor pro tempore Ken Suits, presiding over the meeting, cast the tie-breaking vote, prioritizing a request for state legislative intervention instead. The department is also expected to downsize to just eight law enforcement officers, indicating significant changes in local law enforcement support.
