Ray Smock, the first official historian of the U.S. House of Representatives, has donated his extensive papers to the Robert C. Byrd Center for Congressional History & Education in Shepherdstown. After serving as the center's director for 22 years, Smock continues to actively support its growth and education initiatives. His contributions span decades of historical significance, including involvement in civil rights, educational programs, and the Bicentennial Congress. His personal archives will enhance the center's offerings, which already includes collections from notable West Virginia leaders, enriching the understanding of local and national history.
