ROCKWOOL has expanded its operations in the Eastern Panhandle by acquiring 58.25 acres in Ranson, adjacent to its current facility. Despite concerns from local residents about environmental impacts and the pace of development, company representatives have stated that there are currently no definite plans for the new site. The land was previously part of Jefferson Orchards, which sold the property as part of a 2017 agreement, with the town council later rezoning it for industrial use. Community apprehensions have persisted since the company's initial establishment in the area, particularly regarding air and water quality, while regulatory scrutiny from Denmark in 2020 reflects ongoing concerns about the company's practices.
