As part of the ongoing awareness campaign against stalking, the Eastern Panhandle Empowerment Center (EPEC) held their annual Day of Action at Shepherd University, educating students about the prevalence and impact of stalking. Local statistics highlight that 1 in 6 women and 1 in 15 men in West Virginia have experienced stalking, often starting before the age of 25. This year's event honors Peggy Klinke, a victim of stalking, through a tradition of wearing sparkles initiated by her sister Debbie Riddle. EPEC provides critical resources for victims, including legal aid and support groups, emphasizing the importance of seeking help to combat isolation caused by stalking. The organization continues to advocate for victims throughout the year, with upcoming programs focused on Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month.
