At Shepherd University, students engaged in a program aimed at fostering civic engagement and improving writing skills by sending letters to local representatives. Organized by the Shepherd Writing Project, Common Reading Program, and TRIO Student Services, the initiative encourages students to communicate about issues important to them, inspired by the school's Common Reading book, 'Democracy Awakening.' With support from faculty and staff, the program aims to empower students, particularly first-generation college attendees, to learn how to advocate effectively for their interests, resonating with the region's commitment to education and civic participation.
