Shepherdstown Elects New Mayor and Town Council Members

In the 2024 Shepherdstown municipal election reported by The Independent Observer, 343 out of 768 registered voters participated, marking a significant increase from 2020. James Gatz won the mayoral race with 222 votes, defeating incumbent Jim Auxer, who received 127 votes. Chris Stroech was elected recorder with 251 votes, while Marty Americaner, Shannon Thomas, Linus Bicker, Cheryl Roberts, and Marcy Bartlett secured the at-large council seats. The results are preliminary pending official canvass confirmation on June 10, 2024, revealing a slight discrepancy in vote totals that will be reconciled. Voting took place at the Town Hall where ballots were counted publicly and manually by the election team led by Town Clerk Amy Boyd.
