Throughout February, Badgerhound Studio and Gallery in Shepherdstown hosted children's art workshops celebrating Black History Month. The workshops, led by co-owner Emily Vaughn, included projects inspired by notable Black artists, such as graffiti-style tags reflecting Jean-Michel Basquiat's work, fabric collages inspired by quilts from Gee's Bend, Alabama, and silhouette art inspired by Kara Walker. These classes aim to educate young artists about the contributions of Black artists to American art history. The workshops are not only an opportunity for creativity but also serve to engage the local community, offering parents a chance to take a break while their children learn and have fun in a safe environment.
