Shepherdstown Launches Banner Initiative to Honor Local Veterans
2025 Shepherdstown Banner Initiative kicks off, with April 1 deadline

The Corporation of Shepherdstown has initiated the 2025 Shepherdstown Banner Initiative to honor local veterans and first responders through the Hometown Heroes Banner Program, inspired by a program started in Harrisburg, PA, in 2006. Local resident Jim Schmitt proposed the project to the Town Council, leading to the establishment of a task force to bring this initiative to fruition. Sponsored banners will feature veterans' photos and service details, displayed seasonally throughout the town. With an April 1 deadline for sponsorship submissions and a focus on maintaining the banners' longevity, the town anticipates having these meaningful tributes in place by summer, enhancing community spirit and honoring local heroes.
