On January 23, the Jefferson County Board of Zoning Appeals ruled on a Conditional Use Permit for QRF Solutions K9, allowing the business to manufacture and test firearms near the Shepherdstown Battlefield. Despite strong public opposition, mostly due to noise and safety concerns, the board ultimately modified the permit to restrict shooting activities. The decision has raised questions about zoning regulations in the area, as many believe they should protect the residential character of neighborhoods near historical sites like the Shepherdstown Battlefield, which is central to local tourism efforts.
