The National Rural Letter Carriers’ Association (NRLCA) celebrated the 250th anniversary of the USPS in Shepherdstown with events emphasizing the historical significance of Rural Free Delivery (RFD), which began nearby in Charles Town. NRLCA President Don Maston highlighted the importance of mail service in connecting rural communities to the larger world, underscoring the essential role of local carriers. The event featured discussions on how rural mail delivery has evolved and its ongoing relevance in providing vital services, such as prescription deliveries and serving as community liaisons, particularly during times of crisis. This historic gathering in Shepherdstown honored both local heritage and the ongoing contributions of USPS.
