Shepherdstown Town Council talks issues with disorderly conduct penalty ordinance, commission and board membership

During its recent meeting, the Shepherdstown Town Council addressed significant local matters, including an amendment for a financial penalty on disorderly conduct, which raised concerns about potential criminal records for offenders. Councilmember Marty Amerikaner highlighted community worries regarding the implications for economically disadvantaged individuals. The council also discussed tree maintenance issues and reviewed a request from the Jefferson County Foundation for zoning amendments related to a proposed groundwater bottling plant. Additionally, the financial health of Shepherdstown was reported as strong, but Mayor James Gatz pointed out the lack of applicants for board positions, encouraging community members to get involved.
