On Monday afternoon, the first bald eagle egg of the season was laid at the National Conservation Training Center in Shepherdstown, a highlight for local wildlife enthusiasts. This 22-year-old nest offers a live camera feed that allows residents from nearby towns like Charles Town and Harpers Ferry to observe the eagles as they care for their eggs, which typically hatch after about 35 days. Last year, chicks hatched but did not survive. The NCTC also reports activity in a new lower nest only 15 feet away, raising hopes for more eagle eggs this season. This live view promises unique educational opportunities for local schools and nature organizations alike. (Published by WBOY 12 News)
