Shepherdstown Celebrates First Gay Pride Parade

Shepherdstown has never had its own Pride Parade. So they kicked off this year's Pride Month with a celebration of firsts.

Shepherdstown kicked off Pride Month with its inaugural Gay Pride Parade, a historic event approved by the town council last October. This celebration, themed 'Historic Firsts,' was organized by local performer and activist Joan Moossy. The parade featured a procession of bikers carrying community flags and honored Rosemary Ketchum, the first transgender city council member in West Virginia, as grand marshal. Ketchum expressed pride in the event and optimism for its future, highlighting community unity and the significance of LGBTQ+ representation in the region, as reported by The Spirit of Jefferson.
