In recognition of National Fire Prevention Month, the Shepherdstown Public Library partnered with the Shepherdstown Volunteer Fire Department to host a fire safety workshop for local families, especially targeting the area's robust homeschooling community. The event attracted around 150 attendees, emphasizing the importance of teaching children about fire safety and helping to demystify firefighters. Various activities included demonstrations on how to use the stop, drop, and roll technique, and the children learned that firefighters are helpers, not figures to fear, ensuring they are better prepared for emergencies in their homes and communities like Charles Town and Harpers Ferry. This initiative marks a significant local effort to enhance fire safety education among youth.
