At a recent panel discussion in Shepherdstown, political candidates highlighted the critical importance of every single vote. Former West Virginia Delegate Josh Barker shared his experience of losing an election by just one vote, while city council members Connie Cain and Stephanie Fagan recounted their own narrow victories, emphasizing that close races affirm the value of citizen participation in democracy. As part of a broader effort hosted by Our Future West Virginia at the Robert C. Byrd Center for Congressional History & Education, the candidates stressed that every vote matters in shaping local representation, particularly for underrepresented voices in communities like Ranson and Wheeling.
