The Shepherdstown Rotary Club is supporting local elementary students by distributing 160 backpacks filled with school supplies to children in schools like T.A. Lowery, North Jefferson, Ranson, and Blue Ridge, as well as the Shepherdstown Day Care Center. This initiative, now in its fourth year, focuses on assisting Title I schools where over 40% of the students come from low-income families. The club collaborated with local organizations, raising a total of $5,200 for this effort. Volunteers, including Rotarians and community members, recently gathered to assemble the backpacks ahead of their delivery on August 19, as students prepare to return to classes. The project is coordinated by Walt Eifert and supported by various local contributions, underscoring the community's commitment to education and student readiness, as reported by Herald-Mail Media.
