Shepherdstown Students Shine at DAR Essay Contest

In a celebration held at the Shepherdstown train station, two Saint Joseph School students, sixth-grader Jacob Severance and seventh-grader Jimena Olivera, received top honors for their essays on tea party protests during the 1770s in a state history contest sponsored by the Daughters of the American Revolution. Their submissions were selected from a competitive pool of 124 entries from local schools, showcasing creative historical perspectives on colonial resistance to British taxation. Emily Hendrix from Mill Creek Intermediate also received accolades for her essay, with awards presented during a ceremony that highlighted the importance of creative expression in understanding American history.
