During its August 13 meeting, the Shepherdstown Town Council addressed pressing issues including the need for temporary office space for its expanding staff and unanimously approved essential local events such as the Appalachian Heritage Festival and the first annual 'We the People' Parade. Mayor James Gatz announced the approval of a new Comprehensive Plan for implementation. In a slightly contentious moment, a grant application from Shepherd University alumna Jillian Sobrino was deferred, given the lack of direct ties to the town for her upcoming film, while funding was secured for the Town Run Watershed and the installation of informative signs in local parks, highlighting environmental concerns about stormwater runoff.
