In a recent Vigil for Democracy held in Shepherdstown, over 50 local demonstrators expressed their concerns regarding the federal government's actions, emphasizing the importance of voter participation amid declining turnout in West Virginia. Organized by community members, including Carline Shaw of the League of Women Voters, the event aimed to raise awareness about democracy and encourage civic engagement. Mark Kohut, one of the organizers, promised to continue these vigils monthly in response to rising political activism since the prior presidential election. Local resident Colin Voigt shared his feelings of helplessness and the desire to make a difference through peaceful protest, highlighting the need for accountability from elected officials.
