Storm leads to nest collapse and death of eaglets at NCTC

A severe storm on Saturday evening led to the tragic collapse of a nest at the National Conservation Training Center (NCTC) in Shepherdstown, resulting in the loss of three eaglets that had recently hatched. This unexpected weather event surprised many local bird lovers who have closely monitored the eaglets through the Eagle Cam since their eggs were laid in February. Observers from the area had witnessed the eaglets thriving prior to the storm, but the estimated 75 mph winds scattered the nest's remnants across the ground. The NCTC, which has been home to eagle families since 2003, remains hopeful that the adult eagles, named Scout and Belle, will return next season to attempt nesting again.
