Tourism Is Big Business In Jefferson County

During a recent Jefferson County Commission meeting, Annette Gavin Bates, CEO of the local Convention and Visitors Bureau, reported that tourism generated $876 million in spending for the county in 2024, supporting about 3,700 jobs and contributing $68 million in taxes. The county continues to lead West Virginia in tourism revenue, appealing to visitors due to its historic sites and natural beauty, with 86% of overnight bookings coming from returning visitors. A significant portion of the 6% occupancy tax collected helps fund marketing programs to further enhance the region's appeal. As Ranson integrates its CVB with the county’s, Bates anticipates increased marketing efforts in 2025, showcasing attractions like Harpers Ferry and Charles Town.
