In Shepherdstown, local builder Dominic Valentine has completed West Virginia's first Phius design-certified passive house at 312 W. German St. This innovative home, designed for energy efficiency with features such as 12-inch insulated concrete walls and triple-insulated windows from the Mavrik brand, will generate more electricity than it consumes thanks to its solar panels. Valentine, who managed the project, emphasized the importance of airtight construction and energy-efficient appliances, showcasing the Porters’ commitment to reducing their carbon footprint and leading the way for sustainable building practices in the area, as reported by The Journal.
