Amid the federal government shutdown, Governor Patrick Morrisey has signed an agreement to ensure the continued operation of West Virginia’s national parks, including those near Harpers Ferry. The visitor centers, which have been closed, are set to reopen shortly pending approval from the National Park Service. This initiative underscores the state's commitment to tourism, especially during October—a peak visitation month—when many flock to enjoy activities and the changing foliage. With over 200,000 visitors to the New River Gorge National Park last October alone, the state aims to keep its parks accessible and thriving despite federal disruptions, facilitating continued economic support for local businesses and attractions.
